"It was one of the best decisions we ever made"
Thanks for the email! I know, it’s crazy how fast time has flown by! Married life is wonderful – we’re just enjoying every minute 🙂
So sorry for the delay in responding! I’ve been traveling so much the last month, that it’s been hard to get through all of my email.
See below for some answers to your questions:
Would you recommend a destination wedding?
Yes, absolutely! It was one of the best decisions we ever made. I can’t think of another time when we will/would have 45 of our closest friends and family together for a vacation. People still talk about the trip today – we’re thinking of throwing a Memorial Day BBQ for everyone with Jamaican food/drinks to celebrate one year later and relive all of the fun memories! Plus, once you get down there – everything is relatively stress free (compared to all of the other weddings I’ve been in)! I was swimming in the ocean the morning of my wedding.
Would you recommend Sandals —specifically Sandals Negril?
I would absolutely recommend Sandals Negril to anyone. The people there are amazing, the resort is beautiful, the beach is incredible and the food is great. I also thought the wedding locations were perfect – we got married on the beach, our cocktail hour was in a beautiful garden area and our reception was in a little beach cove on the water (it looked like it was straight out of a movie). When it rained in the middle of our reception, we were promptly moved to an oceanside restaurant to continue the celebration. Even the resort workers got in on the fun and started dancing with us 🙂 A few things that I would warn couples about – if you’re type A (like me 🙂 ), be prepared to just relax and go with the flow because when you’re in Jamaica, they have different timing and follow a “no worries, we’ll figure it out later” mentality. This can be really frustrating if you want to get things in order, but if you just let go and go with it, it will be really fun! Also, I said the resort is beautiful (which it is!) but in an old Caribbean sort of way. It’s definitely not a new, sleek modern resort, but I think it fits the feel of Jamaica. It just comes down to personal preference.
There were definitely a few hiccups (they cancelled our catamaran cruise the day before we were supposed to go, they were late in delivering our welcome bags – and some of our guests didn’t get them at all!), but overall I would still recommend a wedding there.
With regard to recommending Sandals in general for a destination wedding, although when we were on-site, everyone was EXTREMELY accommodating and put my mind at ease, their office in Miami caused more than a few frustrations as we worked to plan things. We would request a, b and c and they would come back with just b and forget about the others (or things like that). I was grateful to have you guys at VIP doing a lot of the negotiating on that front because I would have had a much more difficult time!
AND finally, would you recommend VIP?
Yes! I would absolutely recommend VIP to anyone (and have several times!). Jennifer, your insight/advice was so helpful along the way and really helped make our wedding come together. It was also invaluable having the VIP team helping to coordinate all of the travel/accommodation for our friends and family and also coordinating with the resort! The regular booking updates were great! I was working full time and finishing up my master’s degree at the same time that I was planning my wedding, and I honestly don’t know how I could have made it through that time if my friend hadn’t recommended VIP to me! Also, you were able to arrange for us to have a private welcome dinner at a beautiful restaurant at the resort – for no extra charge! This was the perfect way to kick-off our wedding weekend.
Thanks, Jennifer! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. I’m happy to help in any way. I’m happy to answer any other questions that the couple may have!
